John Arthur Jarvis Is Born

John Arthur Jarvis (24 February 1872 – 9 May 1933) was a British swimmer who competed in the late 19th century and early 20th century.

He participated in Swimming at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris and won two gold medals in the 1000 metre and the 4000 m freestyle events. Jarvis was born in Leicester.

Jarvis entered the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1968.

The International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF) is a hall of fame devoted to the aquatic sports located in Fort Lauderale, FL, USA. It is recognized by FINA as the official hall for the aquatics sports.

It is dedicated to promoting the sport of swimming and immortalizing the achievements and contributions of those who have distinguished themselves in the following five branches of aquatic sports:

* open water swimming (aka Marathon Swimming), and
* synchronised swimming.
