Pittsburgh Pirates defeat New York Mets, 3-1

PITTSBURGH - This time, at least, Johan Santana earned a loss.

A night after J.J. Putz coughed up a lead in an eighth-inning meltdown, Pirates lefthander Zach Duke handled a depleted lineup and outpitched Santana as the Mets lost their second straight, 3-1, Tuesday night.

Santana dropped to 7-3. His other two losses came in games in which he didn't allow an earned run.

The injuries continued to mount, too. Shortstop Ramon Martinez dislocated his left pinkie awkwar...
